Two farmers in Edo State have been k!lled by suspected herdsmen.

Suspected herdsmen have k!lled two farmers, identified as Lucky Salami and Julius Arewa, in Eware Village, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State. The victims were brutally attacked with machetes on Thursday, February 27, 2025.

 

A third victim, Omokhagbon Abu, popularly known as Udugboya, is currently fighting for his life in an undisclosed hospital.

 

This incident follows recent attacks by herders in Okpekpe, Etsako East, and Ivbiaro, Owan East, where three people, including a vigilante commander, were k!lled.

 

Marvelous Zibiri, Chairman of Etsako West Local Government Area, confirmed the attack in a statement on Thursday. His Press Secretary, Iyamah Nurudeen, described the attack as a “dastardly and heinous act” that has caused fear and unrest in the peaceful community of Eware.

 

Zibiri condemned the violence, stating that such acts undermine the peace and security of the area and will not be tolerated. He called on the state government and security agencies to investigate the incident swiftly and bring the perpetrators to justice.

 

The chairman emphasized the need for increased security in rural communities to protect farmers, whom he described as the backbone of the local economy. He also urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information to help apprehend the culprits.
