Trump clarifies Musk’s role: US President Donald Trump dismissed reports that Tesla CEO Elon Musk was briefed on US military plans for a potential conflict with China during a Pentagon meeting. Trump emphasized that he would not disclose such sensitive information to anyone.
“I don’t want to show it to anybody. You know you’re talking about a potential war with China,” Trump stated from the Oval Office. “We don’t want a war with China, but if it happens, we are well prepared.”
His remarks followed speculation about Musk’s visit to the Pentagon on March 21, where he met with Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth for over an hour.
A New York Times report, which Trump dismissed as “fake,” alleged that Musk was receiving a briefing on US military strategies for a possible China conflict. Pentagon officials also refuted the claim.
Still on Trump clarifies Musk’s role
Trump acknowledged Musk’s business ties in China, suggesting a potential conflict of interest if he were privy to such plans. “I don’t want to show that to anybody – but certainly not to a businessman who is helping us so much,” he added.
Musk, who is serving as a special government employee under Trump, reportedly holds top-secret security clearance.
Hegseth has stated that the Defense Department will collaborate with Musk’s DOGE initiative to identify fraud and waste within the department.
Musk’s SpaceX has significant defense contracts, including a $733 million deal awarded by the US Space Force in October 2024.
