Trump and Putin Set to Discuss Ukraine Ceasefire, Borders, and Peace Agreement

President Donald Trump is set to discuss a potential Ukraine ceasefire and peace deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin in a call scheduled for Tuesday. Trump expressed optimism about the upcoming conversation, hinting that he might have an announcement to make by Tuesday.

The talks will reportedly cover critical issues such as land ownership and control of power plants. Trump mentioned that “concepts” of land and Ukraine’s entry into NATO were already being discussed. He specifically highlighted the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Station, Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, which has been under Russian control since 2022.

In recent weeks, Western leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, have visited Washington to discuss ending the war. U.S. negotiators met with top aides to Zelenskyy in Saudi Arabia, resulting in Ukraine agreeing to a U.S.-proposed ceasefire with Russia. However, Russia has yet to accept the terms, and tensions escalated over the weekend with intense aerial fighting.

Zelenskyy has urged the U.S. to increase sanctions on Russia, emphasizing the need for effective diplomacy and defense of Ukraine’s independence. “We will do everything to further intensify diplomacy… But every day now is about defending our independence, our state, and our people,” he stated on X.

The upcoming call between Trump and Putin marks their second known conversation since Trump took office in January. As the situation in Ukraine continues to unfold, the international community watches with bated breath, hoping for a peaceful resolution.
