Speaking as the Chairman at the Haske Satumari Foundation Colloquium in Abuja on Saturday, March 22, Jonathan expressed concern over the political crisis in Rivers State.

“These actions by key actors in the executive and legislative arms of government paint the country in a negative light,” he stated.
Jonathan acknowledged that former presidents typically refrain from commenting on national issues to avoid escalating tensions. However, he said he felt compelled to speak out following appeals from many Nigerians urging him to address the situation.

He emphasized that a country’s image and its ability to attract investments are directly linked to the actions of its executive, legislative, and judicial branches.

The former president also criticized the growing influence of individuals over the judiciary, warning that such interference erodes public trust in the legal system.
On Tuesday, March 18, President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State due to the prolonged political crisis. In a nationwide broadcast, Tinubu announced the suspension of Governor Fubara, Deputy Governor Professor Ngozi Odu, and state House of Assembly members for six months, appointing a sole administrator to govern the state.
