Suspected thief disguised as a customer slashes hawker’s throat in Abuja.

A suspected thief, disguised as a customer, attacked a hawker by slitting his throat before escaping with his goods without payment in the Federal Capital Territory.

The incident reportedly occurred on the morning of Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at Gate 1 in Dutse-Alhaji town, Bwari Area Council of the FCT, where the victim, 25-year-old Babangida Abdullahi, sold waist belts.

Speaking from his hospital bed at Kubwa General Hospital on Thursday, Abdullahi recounted that two men had approached him under the guise of customers, expressing interest in purchasing belts.

“One of them took a belt worth N1,500 and put it in his pocket. When I confronted him, he refused to return it or pay,” he said.

“Instead, he pulled out a sharp object from his pocket and slashed my neck before fleeing across the expressway.”

A hospital official revealed that a policeman had brought the victim in and that he underwent surgery due to a deep cut near a major artery in his neck.

The official also lamented that no relatives or associates of the victim had come forward, leaving hospital staff to cover the cost of injections, drugs, and other necessary treatments.

In response, the hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Dr. Emmanuel Musa, assured that they would continue providing care for the victim while efforts were made to locate his family.
