The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) of Ghana has successfully apprehended a suspected Nigerian drug lord, Uchechukwu Chima, in Accra. The operation, which took place on Tuesday, March 18, 2024, led to the discovery of a substantial 192kg of cocaine and 0.42kg of heroin at his hideout, valued at approximately US$2.1 Million on the streets.
This was confirmed by Francis Opoku Amoah, Acting Director of Public Affairs and International Relations for NACOC, in a statement released on Wednesday, March 19.
“The intelligence-led operation, conducted by NACOC on March 18, 2025, resulted in the capture of 56-year-old Nigerian national Uchechukwu Chima in the Oyarifa area of Accra,” the statement revealed.
A thorough search of the suspect’s location by NACOC agents uncovered substances believed to be narcotics. Field tests confirmed these substances as cocaine and heroin, both classified as narcotic drugs.
The narcotics seized, specifically 192kg of cocaine and 0.42kg of heroin, carry an estimated street value of $2.1 Million. Chima, a key figure behind various previously intercepted narcotic shipments, has been on NACOC’s radar for some time.
Through this significant bust, NACOC has removed a large quantity of harmful substances from potential distribution, safeguarding the lives of countless individuals who could become victims of drug abuse.
NACOC is dedicated to making Ghana inhospitable for drug traffickers, thereby ensuring the safety and security of both Ghanaians and the international community.
