River State Oil incident: Just one day after an explosion rocked the Trans-Niger Pipeline in Bodo, within the Gokana local government area of Rivers State, another incident has been reported. On March 17, a blast occurred at an oil facility located in the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area, specifically at a Manifold Connecting federal line in the Okwawriwa area.
Leadership has reported that this latest blast resulted in large flames shooting into the sky. Witnesses revealed that the explosion happened at a facility that transports petroleum products from Seplat, Agip, and Shell. This facility serves Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA, parts of Imo State, and extends to Brass in Bayelsa State.
Still on River State Oil incident: Thankfully, the location of the facility away from residential areas helped reduce the potential for casualties. This incident follows closely behind a similar explosion at the Trans-Niger Pipeline, operated by the Shell Petroleum Development Company, which delivers oil to Bonny Terminal.
The origin of the initial explosion in Bodo is under police investigation, with two individuals currently detained for questioning related to the Trans-Niger Pipeline explosion. Authorities are actively working to determine the causes of both incidents.
