Fubara wrongly implicated in security concerns – Report

Report clears Fubara’s name

Report clears Fubara’s name:  According to a report from the Coalition of Human Rights Monitoring Group, Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has been wrongly implicated in security concerns that led the state to declare a state of emergencies.
In a national broadcast last Tuesday night, Tinubu declared a State of Emergency in Rivers State, saying that he was “greatly concerned about the political crises” in the state, and accused Governor Sim Fubara of demolishing State House of Assembly Building.

Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu and all elected members of Rivers State House of Assembly were suspended initially for six months. Ibokette Ibas was appointed Administrator of the State to oversee the affairs of the State during the Emergency Period.

Tinubu’s decision has been criticized by many Nigerians who question its legality.

In a report about the crisis in Rivers State by the Coalition of Human Rights Monitoring Group (CHRMG), Fubara was not linked to militant groups that were responsible for the pipeline vandalism in the state and the security breaches.

The report, which was released at a press event in Abuja on March 26, described the claims that Fubara had ties with militant groups as “politically-motivated fabrications” intended to destabilise Fubara’s administration.

Coalition of Human Rights Monitoring Groups: Investigations by the Coalition of Human Rights Monitoring Groups revealed that there was no evidence of any financial transactions or operational ties between the state government, known militant groups and their respective factions.

The report highlighted Nyesom Wike’s role in escalating tensions in Rivers State by his incendiary remarks.

In its report, the Coalition recommends an immediate cessation to political hostilities. It also calls for the withdrawal of all security forces illegally deployed in Rivers State and independent investigations of allegations of militancy.

“It’s abundantly clear that we, and the world, are aware of the fact that Governor Siminalayi Fubara does not have any verifiable ties to militant groups in Rivers State or the Niger Delta as a whole.

“We are convinced the accusations against him seem to be political in nature, fuelled by power struggles and rivalries that go back a long way rather than being based on any facts. This report has dismantled unfounded allegations made against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and exposed them as political fabrications.

“The real instigators in Rivers State is those who put personal vendettas above public welfare. All stakeholders in Nigeria, as well as the international community must recognize the dangers of using baseless accusations to achieve political ends.

“The attempt to malign the character of Governor Fubara through such allegations is not only an assault on his integrity, but also an insult to the democratic values Nigeria claims to uphold.

“The reckless statements of Minister Nyesom Wike that have increased tensions in the area must be condemned unambiguously. The constitutional and ethical responsibility of public office holders is to promote national unity, not to stoke discord.

“The people in Rivers State deserve stability, peace and development – not a crisis created by political ambition and greed. We are concerned citizens, defenders for democracy and we support truth and justice with a resolute attitude.

“Governor Fubara cannot be sacrificed to political expediency. His exoneration of these baseless accusations and false narratives does not only defend his persona, but also democracy.

“Governor Fubara’s commitment to peace and security has been demonstrated time and again. His call for the safety of oil installations is in stark contrast with the false allegations made to try to damage his reputation.

“The security issues in Rivers State were not created by him; they are rather symptomatic for a larger historical struggle in the Niger Delta to achieve equity and justice. “The international community, civil societies, and all supporters of democracy must stand firm behind Rivers State in order to save it from chaos,” the Coalition stated.

Wike responds to Atiku, stating he has no regrets about losing the VP position and promises that Atiku will face defeat once more.
