The Niger State Police Command has detained an officer who accidentally sh0t an immigration personnel while attempting to disperse hoodlums in Minna. The incident occurred on February 21, 2025, when a police patrol team was attacked by hoodlums while recovering suspected stolen items. During the confrontation, Assistant Superintendent of Immigration (ASI) Christiana Oladimeji sustained a gunshot wound.
Niger State Commissioner of Police, Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman, confirmed that the officer involved has been detained and is undergoing administrative disciplinary action, along with his colleagues who were on duty at the time. The Commissioner made these remarks while presenting a N1 million cash donation to the family of the injured officer to assist with hospital expenses.
According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, on Monday, February 24, the Commissioner, represented by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Administration) Aminu Garba, visited the injured officer at the Specialist Hospital in Minna. During the visit, the CP inquired about Oladimeji’s condition, who is currently recuperating in the intensive care unit. He also informed the family that the Niger State Government provided financial support to aid her medical treatment.
The police command expressed regret over the incident and reiterated its commitment to ensuring proper disciplinary measures are taken while supporting the victim’s recovery.
