A 14-year-old Junior Secondary School 3 student, Timothy Amosun, tragically lost his life when a rainstorm destroyed Mayigi Community Comprehensive High School in Ilase, Ogun.
On March 19, the Ogun government, through a statement by Mr. Lekan Adeniran, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Dapo Abiodun, confirmed the unfortunate incident.
Five other students, two teachers, a food vendor, and her seven-month-old child were injured during this calamity.
The governor expressed his heartfelt sympathy to those affected by the rainstorm that led to the school’s collapse in the Ipokia Local Government Area.
He described the event as a shocking and painful tragedy for the families and the community involved.
“We pray that God grants the family of the deceased the strength to bear this irreplaceable loss,” the governor conveyed.
Additionally, he assured the community that the state government would bear the medical expenses for those injured.
The governor also instructed that victims in critical condition should be moved to specialist hospitals for comprehensive medical care, and he visited them to ensure they were receiving proper treatment. On behalf of the family, Mr. Moses Amosun expressed gratitude to the governor, his deputy, and the delegation, acknowledging that though the loss is painful, the government’s presence provides them with some solace and confirms they are not alone.
