Manchester United are reportedly set for a massive squad overhaul this summer, with at least 10 players expected to depart. The club’s new ownership, along with incoming manager Ruben Amorim, is planning a major reshuffle following another underwhelming season.
According to the Manchester Evening News, United are looking to offload Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Jadon Sancho permanently. All three players, currently on loan, have fallen out of favor at Old Trafford. The funds generated from their sales will be used to sign a top-class striker.
Chelsea, who have an obligation to buy Sancho for £20-25 million, are reportedly considering paying United £5 million in compensation to avoid completing the deal. Meanwhile, veteran midfielder Casemiro is also expected to be sold as part of the club’s efforts to raise funds.
Additionally, experienced players Jonny Evans and Tom Heaton are likely to retire at the end of the season, while Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof are set to be released. With multiple attacking players set to depart, United are expected to be in the market for a new winger.
Speaking earlier this month, Amorim hinted that some players are already aware they will be leaving. He stated:
“Everybody understands that in football, sometimes you stay, sometimes you have to move on. I like to be clear and honest with my players, and they usually understand, even if it’s difficult at first.”
Meanwhile, United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe recently criticized the club’s past transfer spending in an interview with Gary Neville. He named six high-profile signings—Sancho, Casemiro, Antony, Rasmus Højlund, Lisandro Martínez, and André Onana—as examples of overspending.
Ratcliffe remarked:
“This summer, we will ‘buy’ Antony, Sancho, Casemiro, Martínez, Højlund, and Onana again—each costing about £17m per season. Some players are not good enough, while others are overpaid, but we have inherited these issues and must now address them.”
United are undergoing a transitional period, with Ratcliffe emphasizing that reshaping the squad will take time. However, he also acknowledged the presence of key players like Bruno Fernandes, whom he described as essential to the club’s future.
