Sand from schoolchildren’s footprints: A man narrowly escaped lynching after he was caught allegedly collecting sand from the footprints of two schoolchildren in the Adewole community, Ilorin West Local Government Area, Kwara State.
According to Daily Trust, the incident occurred near the Mandate Estate during the busy school rush hours.
The suspect, identified only as Bello, was apprehended by residents, who severely beat him and were on the verge of lynching him before some passersby intervened. He was later escorted out of the area to prevent further violence.
A witness, Mr. Ola, claimed he saw the man in the act.
“My attention was drawn to him when he picked up the sand because I was walking behind the children’s mother. I watched as he skillfully poured it into his pocket, which made me confront him and raise the alarm,” he recounted.
The children’s mother, unaware of what had transpired until the commotion, expressed shock and urged parents to remain vigilant in protecting their children.
When questioned by Daily Trust at the scene, the suspect struggled to explain his actions and only stated that he was heading to Oko Olowo.
