Igbo presidency is necessary, but only after Tinubu’s second term – Orji Uzor Kalu.

A Nigerian senator, Orji Uzor Kalu, has asserted that while an Igbo individual should eventually become president, it will not happen in 2027.

Kalu emphasized that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has already settled on its sole candidate for the 2027 election, insisting that President Bola Tinubu “must complete eight years” in office. The former Abia State governor stated that once Tinubu’s tenure ends, the Igbo should present a widely accepted candidate for the presidency.

“I am not going to dwell on the topic of an Igbo presidency, but I maintain that it is necessary. The Igbo must put forward a candidate who is acceptable to all Nigerians. No single region can produce a president alone. President Tinubu was not elected solely by the Yoruba but by the entire nation,” Kalu explained.

He continued, “In our party, there is only one presidential candidate right now, and Tinubu must serve for eight years. It is essential. You can already see the progress he has made in reviving the economy, and things are improving. This president is not even focusing on politics at the moment—he has never declared his intent to run or not.”

Kalu further stated that the APC had already decided to back Tinubu for a second term, giving him a vote of confidence. He noted that the National Executive Committee (NEC) had formally endorsed Tinubu’s leadership through a motion proposed by the Governor of Imo State and announced by APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje.
