Germany Issues Revised US Travel Advisory Following Detention of Citizens

Germany has updated its travel advisory for the United States, emphasizing that having a visa or entry waiver doesn’t guarantee entry for its citizens. This move comes after several German nationals were detained at the US border recently.

The German foreign ministry spokesperson clarified that the final decision on whether a person can enter the US lies with the US border authorities. Neither approval through the US ESTA system nor a US visa entitles entry in every case. However, the spokesperson noted that this update doesn’t constitute a travel warning.

The situation has raised concerns, particularly since President Donald Trump announced immigration-related executive orders focusing on stricter border policy, tighter visa vetting procedures, and a crackdown on undocumented migrants.

Germany’s foreign ministry is monitoring whether there’s been a change in US immigration policy after three German nationals were detained. Two cases have been resolved, with the individuals returning to Germany, while the remaining case is being handled with the help of the consulate general in Boston.

One of the detained individuals, a German man with a green card residency permit, was held in a detention facility after being detained at Boston airport. The German foreign ministry hasn’t provided updates on his current whereabouts.

This development has sparked worries among Germans traveling to the US, highlighting the need for clarity on US immigration policies.
