Israel warns it may proceed with annexing sections of Gaza should the hostages remain unreleased.

Gaza sections under threat

Gaza sections under threat: On Wednesday, March 26, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a warning that parts of Gaza could be taken if Hamas fails to free the hostages.

Hamas responded by stating that the hostages would return in body bags if Israel continued its bombardment of the Palestinian region.

It has been a week since the Israeli military resumed its operations after a ceasefire was established in January. Israel reported that two projectiles were launched from the Gaza Strip, with one intercepted and the other landing close to the border; fortunately, there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

This rocket fire occurred just a day after a significant protest by hundreds of Palestinians against Hamas, where demonstrators voiced their opposition to the Islamist group and called for an end to the ongoing conflict.

Following the collapse of a fragile ceasefire, Israel intensified its airstrikes and ground operations in Gaza last week, prompting militants to resume their rocket assaults.

Gaza sections under threat: As reported by the health ministry in Gaza, which is governed by Hamas, the death toll has risen to 830 since Israel renewed its military actions on March 18.

There have been no fatalities reported in Israel.

Israeli officials indicated that the renewed military efforts are aimed at pressuring Hamas to release the remaining hostages, following a deadlock in negotiations with mediators regarding an extension of the truce. The initial agreement had resulted in the release of 33 Israeli captives in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.

Israel sought to prolong the first phase of the truce, while Hamas called for discussions on a subsequent phase intended to establish a lasting ceasefire.

Prime Minister Netanyahu informed parliament that as long as Hamas continues to withhold hostages, Israel will increase its pressure.

“This may involve territorial seizures and other undisclosed measures. The more Hamas delays the release of hostages, the more territory it stands to lose, which will be annexed by Israel,” he stated.
