A fuel-laden tanker exploded at A.A Rano filling station in Hannun Riga, Kontagora, the headquarters of Kontagora Local Government Area of Niger State.
The incident occurred around 7 PM on Sunday, March 23, 2025, while Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, was being offloaded from the tanker. The filling station is located just a few meters from the ‘B’ Division of the Nigeria Police in Kontagora.
Eyewitnesses reported that the fire broke out during the offloading process, with other fuel storage tanks at the station still containing petrol, heightening fears of a possible escalation.
“Fire Service personnel are doing their best to contain the fire, but the situation remains tense as the flames continue to spread,” said Abba Mohammed, an eyewitness.
No casualties have been reported so far, but panic ensued as people, including passersby, fled the scene for safety.
