The FCT Police Command has intercepted a major illegal ammunition shipment and arrested a suspect linked to the crime.
In collaboration with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), operatives from the Nyanya Division, FCT Command, tracked and apprehended 32-year-old Nuhu Aminu from Katsina State at the Nyanya bus terminal on March 24, 2025.
Aminu was found in possession of 488 AK-47 live rounds, cleverly hidden in two 25-litre jerrycans filled with palm oil to avoid detection.
During interrogation, he admitted to being recruited by Yakubu Kachalla from Funtua, Katsina State, who allegedly paid him N100,000 to pick up the illegal cargo from an unidentified contact in Nasarawa State and transport it to Katsina.
Confirming the arrest, FCT Police Command spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh emphasized the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and curbing the spread of illegal arms fueling violent crimes. She added that Aminu remains in custody as investigations continue to identify his accomplices and uncover the full scope of the arms-smuggling operation.
