Fake prophet imprisoned for theft: An Iyaganku Magistrate’s Court in Ibadan has sentenced a 39-year-old man, Ezekiel Onikoyi, to two weeks imprisonment for stealing a woman’s handbag after deceiving her by posing as a prophet.
Onikoyi was charged with stealing, obtaining money under false pretenses, and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace. He pleaded guilty to all charges.
According to the Prosecutor, Sgt. Samuel Owolabi, the incident occurred on March 14 at 11:30 p.m. near the Old Toll Gate on the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway. Onikoyi approached the victim, Mrs. Balikis Adeoti, pretending to have a divine revelation for her. He instructed her to drop her bag and walk a short distance to pray, claiming it would solve her problems.

Magistrate Gladys Oladele found Onikoyi guilty and sentenced him to two weeks in prison at Agodi Correctional Centre. Alternatively, he was given the option of serving one month of community service. She also ordered that the recovered power bank be returned to the victim.
