A 30-year-old man, Darlington Watson, was stoned to d3ath by rival cult members in the Agudama-Epie community in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State. The incident occurred on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, amid escalating violence between rival cult groups.
According to reports, Darlington, a member of a cult group, was dragged out of a moving tricycle by members of a rival group, who then brutally attacked him with sticks and stones until he succumbed to his injuries. A witness stated that the attack took place around 5:15 pm near a Pentecostal church in Agudama-Epie.
The family of the deceased reportedly removed the body for burial before a police patrol team arrived at the scene. The assailants fled, and no arrests have been made yet.
Spokesperson for the Bayelsa State Police Command, Musa Mohammed, confirmed the incident on Thursday, stating that the clash involved the Bobous and Greenlander cult groups. He added that investigations have been intensified to apprehend those responsible for the k!lling.
The police are urging the public to provide useful information to aid in the arrest of the suspects and to help curb the ongoing cult-related violence in the area.
