Armed Boko Haram terrorists have attacked two military formations in Borno State, targeting the Wajirko army formation in Damboa Local Government Area and another in Wulgo village, Gamboru Ngala Local Government Area.
The attack, which took place on Monday, March 24, reportedly resulted in at least two soldiers being killed and several others injured. Among the injured was the newly deployed Brigade Commander for ‘Operation Hadin Kai’ in Damboa, who stepped on an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by the insurgents along the Maiduguri-Damboa-Biu road.
The simultaneous ambushes led to the dislodgement of troops at both locations, though unverified reports suggest that some of the terrorists were also killed in the encounter. The Wulgo Army formation, a strategic post near the border with Cameroon, houses combined troops from Nigeria and Cameroon.
Following the attacks, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume (APC, Borno South) expressed deep concern over the resurgence of Boko Haram violence in Southern Borno. He criticized the security forces’ inability to prevent the attacks and urged the federal government to deploy advanced technological warfare, including drones, to combat insurgency effectively.
Ndume also called on the government to take urgent action to address the growing insecurity in the region and to ensure the release of individuals recently abducted by Boko Haram, including Professor Abubakar El-Jummah.
The attacks have further complicated efforts to reopen the long-closed Maiduguri-Damboa-Biu road, a key transportation route in the region, forcing residents and travelers to take longer, more dangerous detours.
