Texas attorney Tony Buzbee, renowned for his legal confrontations with music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, is withdrawing from more than a dozen sex trafficking lawsuits filed against Diddy in a New York federal court.
Court documents acquired by TMZ reveal that Buzbee has requested to step down as the attorney in 15 cases within the Southern District of New York (SDNY).
Buzbee has cited his inability to secure admission to practice law in SDNY as the reason for his withdrawal. In a statement to U.S. District Judge Ronnie Abrams, Buzbee acknowledged his “error in judgment” for not disclosing his lack of authorization to practice in the district. He admitted that his admission status had become a hindrance, diverting attention from the victims involved.
Despite Buzbee’s withdrawal, the lawsuits will proceed. The alleged victims will now be represented by law firms based in New York. Buzbee emphasized that his firm still plays a role in the case, and he remains the chief attorney in other lawsuits against Diddy in various states. He also hinted at plans to initiate new lawsuits against the mogul in Nevada and California shortly.
Buzbee, who is licensed to practice in New York’s Eastern District, claims that his admission to SDNY faced delays due to a grievance filed by rapper Jay-Z in another matter. Although Buzbee’s withdrawal marks a setback for the lawsuits against Diddy, the legal battle continues to develop across different jurisdictions.
