A woman, Maria Wangare Kamunge, also known as Rish Kamunge, has been arraigned for allegedly orchestrating a job scam that targeted Kenyans seeking employment in Mauritius.
According to a statement from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Friday, March 28, 2025, victims reported paying between Sh200,000 and Sh400,000 for job placements, only to later discover that the promised opportunities did not exist.
Some job seekers even traveled to Mauritius, only to be left stranded at the airport without assistance before being deported back to Kenya.
Investigations revealed that a total of 43 victims had sent Sh12.9 million to the suspect.
Kamunge, who serves as the Director of Trustpine Travel Agency, was presented in court for custodial orders and has since been remanded at Capital Hill Police Station.
The case is set for mention today, March 28, 2025.
The DCI has urged any additional victims of the scam to come forward and report their cases at the Central Police Station in Nairobi.
