A Nigerian lawyer comes to the aid of a 23-year-old woman reportedly assaulted by her boyfriend.

A Nigerian lawyer and human rights activist, Toyin Ndidi Taiwo-Ojo, has rescued a 23-year-old woman who was allegedly subjected to severe abuse by her boyfriend.

Toyin shared the details of the rescue in a Facebook post on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, revealing that the victim’s boyfriend, who is also the father of her child, had been physically assaulting her repeatedly—even just three weeks after she gave birth.

“The rescue mission I undertook today was successful. I just saved a 23-year-old young woman who was being beaten black and blue by her boyfriend, the father of her child,” the lawyer wrote.

According to Toyin, the victim’s mother, despite knowing about the abuse, would always send her back to the man because she depended on the little money he provided.

The survivor recounted that her boyfriend would beat her to the point of bleeding, only to later apologize and beg for forgiveness. He had assaulted her countless times and even physically attacked her while she was just three weeks postpartum.

He restricted her access to a phone, only buying her new ones to later smash them as punishment whenever she upset him. He also kept her locked inside the house all day and would accuse her of infidelity, even when she had been in his mother’s company the entire time.

At one point, he demanded she take a blood covenant with him, but she refused, leading to further trouble.

Toyin expressed her dismay, stating, “Today, I confirmed once again that a man can come from a good family and still turn out to be terrible.”

The abuser’s mother, who was deeply troubled by her son’s actions, confirmed the victim’s innocence and admitted that her son was obsessed, constantly making baseless accusations. She pleaded for help, saying she was tired of watching her son mistreat another person’s child.

“Tonight, she can finally sleep without fear of being strangled because she is now in a safe place,” Toyin concluded.
