A section of the popular Onitsha Main Market on Ifejika Street, near Sokoto Road in Anambra State, has been gutted by fire, leaving traders counting their losses.
The blaze reportedly started in one building around 6:20 a.m. before spreading to an adjacent structure, destroying goods and property in its path. As of the time of this report, the cause of the fire remains unknown.
Confirming the incident, the head of media and publicity for the Anambra State Fire Service, Chukwudi Chiketa, stated that firefighters were swiftly deployed to contain the inferno.
Videos circulating online show thick smoke billowing from the affected buildings as the fire raged.
