Former La Liga player, Andrija Delibasic, passes away at 43 after succumbing to his battle with cancer.

Former Real Sociedad forward, Andrija Delibasic, has sadly passed away at the age of 43 following a long battle with cancer. The former Montenegro international had been fighting a brain tumour for several years before his death was announced on Tuesday.

Delibasic was also renowned for his time at FK Partizan, where between 1999 and 2004, he made 100 appearances and netted 48 goals. Notably, during one Champions League season, he scored three crucial goals, two of which were against Porto, the eventual tournament winners.

Following the news of his passing, heartfelt tributes from his past clubs poured in on social media. Real Sociedad expressed their sorrow: ‘We deeply mourn the loss of Andrija Delibašić, a cherished Txuri Urdin player from the 2007/08 season. Our sincere condolences to his family and friends. Goian bego.’

Hercules FC also shared their grief: ‘Hercules CF mourns the loss of Andrija Delibašić, a pivotal player in our promotion to the First Division during the 2009/2010 season. Over two seasons, he scored 20 goals wearing the Hercules jersey. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. RIP.’

In addition, Rayo Vallecano acknowledged Delibasic’s contribution: ‘Rayo Vallecano mourns the passing of our former player Andrija Delibasic.’

‘Deli was integral to our promotion to the First Division in 2011 during his three seasons (2010-2013) with us. We offer our deepest sympathies and send our love to his family and friends. RIP Deli.’

Partizan also paid homage: ‘Andrija Delibasic 1981 – 2025 Rest in peace legend!!!’

Moreover, Delibasic left a mark internationally, famously scoring against England during Montenegro’s 2-2 draw against the Three Lions in 2011.
