Lagos S3x Industry BoomsLagos S3x Industry Booms: A recent survey has uncovered that in 2024, men residing in Lagos State allocated around N661 billion on commercial sex workers, often referred to as “runs girls.”

As shared by an investor and investment banker, Kayode MO (@kayomosebi), of this N661 billion, approximately N329 billion was spent on hiring these workers, while another N332 billion covered additional related expenditures.

The purpose of this survey was to highlight the economic significance of commercial sex work, its market valuation, and the involved parties.

Statistical findings indicated that out of the 3.1 million men between the ages of 20 to 69, living in 20 local government areas in Lagos, about 1.86 million participated in transactional sex involving non-partners.

Sex workers charged an average rate of N36,750, with the lowest rate set at N20,000.

Eti-Osa Local Government area stood out with the highest transactional sex rates, climbing to as much as N100,000.

This area, a center of affluence and business, includes wealthy neighborhoods like Ikoyi, Victoria Island, and Lekki.

Following Eti-Osa in terms of expensive transactional sex were Surulere, Kosofe, Alimosho, and Oshodi-Isolo.

Details in the survey showed that of the N329 billion collected by sex workers, N93 billion was directed towards “body and skin maintenance products, including natural hair.”

Still on Lagos S3x Industry Booms

The research also disclosed that sex workers allocated N62.5 billion to support their families.

Additionally, N62.5 billion was spent on “clothing, accessories, rent, car and e-hailing, fitness, and healthy living.”

Investments in ventures such as “crypto, trading, forex, and betting” accounted for N46 billion.

Both health and education expenses were N15 billion each, covering items like “antibiotics, supplements, STD treatment, check ups, Bachelor’s program, coursework, project writers, and settlements.”

Beyond direct payments to sex workers, men in Lagos expended N332 billion on related spending.

“Entertainment, food, and hospitality” consumed a substantial N150.6 billion.

“Gifts, ranging from souvenirs and other consumables from ‘loyal’ and repeat patrons to fully-paid trips, vacations, cars, and luxury items in higher-end segments, represented the leading category of these additional costs,” the survey noted.

Moreover, “drugs, sexual enhancers, stimulators, and sex accessories collectively amounted to N33.4 billion during this period,” the report concluded.
